Going down the wire tree route using cheap plastic coated garden wire. Bought 100m for £4. The large trees need about 4.5m each. The wire is cut into approximately x15 30cm lengths. These are bundled together and then twisted together using oilers with a loop at the bottom to be cut and form the roots. The branches are made by dividing the loose end into equal parts and then twisting up to a random point and then separating into smaller branches until there is only one left.
Next I used pva to stick it to a base and covered the roots and trunk and as far as I could up the branches with polyfiller to make the texture.
For the leaves I added wire wool teased out as loose as possible over the top most branches and used pva again to anchor it. Not the most secure but what the heck
Next I got the spray cans out and primed the whole thing with grey. I didn't have a brown so I used a light coating of red primer over the grey on the trunk branches and base and hoped it didn't look too bad.
Next I sprayed the wool a green ish colour. It wasn't the best natural green but did the job.
While it was still drying I thought I'd try and get the flock onto the wool and used a very old can of scotch spray glue for mounting on display boards and spayed the wool. I then placed in a large clean box and dumped flock onto it. It hasn't stuck everywhere so I hit it again with the glue and tried again. It's getting better but the coverage is not complete. I will give it some more whacks once its dried and see what happens.
I have a second test piece but want to get more interest on the base for this one as the first one is a bit lonely.
