The Search for the Keelcleaver Axe

According the scrolls the Frostblade known as the Axe of Keelcleaver was a blade once touched by the hand of Russ. In a fearsome battle against the Emperors foes in the before times. Wolf Lord Bran Keelcleaver was wielding the weapon alongside the Russ when Russ’s blade became stuck in a dreaded beasts hide. Bran threw his axe to Russ and drew his knife and the pair continued the fight. Once the battle was done Russ returned the Axe and with a laugh told the Wolf Lord it was a fair Axe with a shape blade.

As such it is a relic of the Space Wolves. A weapon the Wolf king used and found not to be wanting.

As such it has been passed among the wolf lords and favoured of the Wolf guard for generations. Repaired as needed but it’s blade still that which Russ had slain his enemies.

One such Wolf Lord was leading the new Ultima founding great company of Space Wolves. Kargir Murkstalker. Tragically he was slain on the battlefield but his body and the Relic were recovered by his Battle Leader and the Company returned to their camp to mourn the loss of their Wolf Lord and tell his Saga. During the night some traitorous whore son stole into the camp evading even the Space wolves senses and managed to take the Axe of Keelcleaver.

When the theft was discovered the Company managed to find the trail and chased after the thief smashing through the enemy frontlines slaughtering all that stood on the world between them and their quarry. The rogue Space Marines created such a breach and confusion in the traitors in front of them that other forces where able to exploit and destroy the enemy. A few of the traitors escaped off world presumably taking the axe with them for who knows what heathen purposes.

When the loss of the Axe was reported to the great council the company was banished unable to return to Fenris until the Axe was reclaimed. The company took an oath of vengeance. An Inquisitor who was attached to the forces defending the world pledged his aid in tracking down the axe after all each world it touches could be tainted by the corruption of its carrier. Together they have been following the psychic signature of the Axe and its thief across the void.

The Wolves will have their vengeance and reclaim their relic.

Whenever a game is played with the Space Wolves there is a special non-points crusade derived objective. Either the Wolves want to capture the enemy Warlord in melee to ask them some pointed questions. Or there is information hidden in one of the battlefield objectives. Or maybe the thief lies beyond the enemy front line and units must breach those lines to find him.

Despite this the thief always seems to be one step ahead.
