1st Company Sternguard

Somethings just get into my head and suddenly I want to spend lots of money of lots on different kits and the idea of 1st company marines with no helmets their bare heads showing off their augmentation, well it kind of got stuck in there.
At first I was thinking of getting the actual Sternguard and then attaching them to new primaris models.
While I was thinking about it I tried moving the arms and backpack from my magnatised multimelta devastator on one of the push fit assault primaris bodies I hadn't glued together.
He looked pretty awesome in my opinion.
So then I was looking at another devastator kit a sternguard and the assault intercessors. One hundred pounds of fresh kits!
This was too rich for my taste. My other little goal is to get the 3rd Company to full strength at 100 marines. I plan to get 10 jump pack assault marines 10 more terminators and another 5 (well 6) aggressors along with 20 more intercessors. Not to mention I need vehicles. All I have for transport is a old razorback. Given my low funds I wasn't going to do this soon and especially not if I waste all my cash and then some on 10 dudes that are not part of the company.
But this idea would not leave me alone. After much internal debate I decided to use 5 of my 10 push fits to make the Sternguard. I had some spares from my devestators so I raided the bits box and started making marines
I called this guy the  gun zurker I liked his position and movement
The sergeant came next. I had the notion to make all the marines without helmets. This guys lid was hard to get out so I was going to leave it. Then I had a thought. The boss usually doesn't have a helmet we could switch it around so all the troopers have bare heads and the sergeant has the helmet on. Genius.
I changed him quite a lot once I got the iron hand upgrade sprue. Adding different shoulder pads and a iron hands augmented helmet.
He was the first of the Sternguard painted

A big part of Sternguard is their weapon choices. Combi weapons in particular.
Now I didn't have any combi weapons. But they are basically a special weapon jammed on top of a bolter. Looking through my bits I spied the plasma incinerator from the hellblaster kit. It's basically a plasma gun only primaris size. I figured I could jam it on top of a standard bolt rifle and it'd look alright.
A bit of test fitting later and I decided this was the wrong way round. The bolt rifle and plasma made it too big and high. But attaching a smaller bolt carbine to the bottom of the incinerator worked really well. It needed a lot of little cuts to get the fit just right but it came nice if a little large compared to the normal combi
plasma
At this point I was running out of augmented heads a lot had already been used on the other characters and sergeants.
 I needed more heads.

I started out with one of the masked faces in the intercessor kit

I drilled out one of his eyes and then carved a small notch in a line across his head. Then I filed one side of this notch down to remove the skin texture and make a difference from one side to the other and give a me a mark to paint the silver
I used this technique a couple more times and it meant I didn't have two heads looking the same.
To be continued.....

The itch that must be scratched

Collecting is a sometimes a bad habit and at its worst a compulsive disorder. You can convince yourself that you must have that next thing for whatecer reason you choose.
I am currently holding myself back from spending more than I should by looking at the small pile of unpainted or even un assembled models in my collection. I have so many I will have to go through by army type and exclude models that have passable basing. Otherwise it'd be quicker just to list the models I've "finished"

 Genestealer cult.

5x Paladin. (not even built)

So I have made a deal with myself that if I buy any new models they have to be for an army with less than two incomplete units. Until then I can save the money. My plan is to bring the Genestealers up to scratch as their list is pretty much their whole army bar 6 Purestrains.
I want to try and get them to be more of an actual army as they currently only just squeeze out a 500 point list and get mown down as it's not a good list as they have no vehicles. I'd also like to get the start collecting before it goes up by £25 to a combat patrol set.
