At first I was thinking of getting the actual Sternguard and then attaching them to new primaris models.
While I was thinking about it I tried moving the arms and backpack from my magnatised multimelta devastator on one of the push fit assault primaris bodies I hadn't glued together.
He looked pretty awesome in my opinion.
So then I was looking at another devastator kit a sternguard and the assault intercessors. One hundred pounds of fresh kits!
This was too rich for my taste. My other little goal is to get the 3rd Company to full strength at 100 marines. I plan to get 10 jump pack assault marines 10 more terminators and another 5 (well 6) aggressors along with 20 more intercessors. Not to mention I need vehicles. All I have for transport is a old razorback. Given my low funds I wasn't going to do this soon and especially not if I waste all my cash and then some on 10 dudes that are not part of the company.
But this idea would not leave me alone. After much internal debate I decided to use 5 of my 10 push fits to make the Sternguard. I had some spares from my devestators so I raided the bits box and started making marines
The sergeant came next. I had the notion to make all the marines without helmets. This guys lid was hard to get out so I was going to leave it. Then I had a thought. The boss usually doesn't have a helmet we could switch it around so all the troopers have bare heads and the sergeant has the helmet on. Genius.
I changed him quite a lot once I got the iron hand upgrade sprue. Adding different shoulder pads and a iron hands augmented helmet.
A big part of Sternguard is their weapon choices. Combi weapons in particular.
Now I didn't have any combi weapons. But they are basically a special weapon jammed on top of a bolter. Looking through my bits I spied the plasma incinerator from the hellblaster kit. It's basically a plasma gun only primaris size. I figured I could jam it on top of a standard bolt rifle and it'd look alright.
A bit of test fitting later and I decided this was the wrong way round. The bolt rifle and plasma made it too big and high. But attaching a smaller bolt carbine to the bottom of the incinerator worked really well. It needed a lot of little cuts to get the fit just right but it came nice if a little large compared to the normal combi
At this point I was running out of augmented heads a lot had already been used on the other characters and sergeants.
I needed more heads.
I drilled out one of his eyes and then carved a small notch in a line across his head. Then I filed one side of this notch down to remove the skin texture and make a difference from one side to the other and give a me a mark to paint the silver
